Roster Move: Bears acquire 6-time Pro Bowl WR Keenan Allen
In a stunning trade with the Chargers on Thursday, the Bears acquired six-time Pro Bowl receiver Keenan Allen in return for a 2024 fourth-round draft pick (No. 110), subject to a medical.
"We're thrilled to have Keenan join our team," Ryan Poles, general manager, stated. "His body of work speaks for itself and we look forward to him elevating our offense."
The Chargers, who drafted the 31-year-old Allen out of California in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft, have been his home team for the whole 11-year career. With 139 starts under his belt, the 6-2, 211-pound player has played in 139 games and caught 904 receptions for 10,530 yards and 59 touchdowns.

Despite missing the final four games due to a heel injury, Allen led the NFL with a career-high and franchise-record 108 catches for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns last season, earning him votes to five consecutive Pro Bowls from 2017 to 21. He was also selected for the sixth time.
In his three career games last year, Allen became the first player in NFL history to catch at least 15 receptions. In a 28-24 Week 3 victory over the Vikings, he not only set career highs with 18 receptions and 215 yards, but he also became the first player to have at least 15 receptions and throw a touchdown pass in the same game. He accomplished this accomplishment by throwing a 49-yard touchdown pass to receiver Mike Williams.
In five of the previous seven seasons—102 in 2017, 104 in 2019, 100 in 2020, 106 in 2021, and 108 in 2023—Allen has caught at least 100 passes. He also had six campaigns with 1,000 yards or more. In his 139th career game last year, he became the fastest player in NFL history to reach 900 receptions.

He recorded rookie receiving marks for the Chargers in 2013 with 71 receptions and 1,046 yards. Allen led the NFL with 1,393 receiving yards in 2017 and won NFL Comeback Player of the Year after suffering a season-ending torn ACL in the 2016 season opener. He made league records that season when he had three consecutive games with at least 10 catches, 100 yards, and one touchdown.
The Bears are the only NFL team with two receivers who combined for at least 1,200 yards in the previous campaign after acquiring Allen. DJ Moore placed sixth with a career-high 1,364 yards, while Allen ended 11th with 1,243 yards. Chris Beatty, who coached Allen's receivers the last three seasons with the Chargers, is starting his first season with the Bears.
Nearly exactly a year has passed since the Bears acquired Moore in a sensational trade with the Panthers. That agreement, reached on March 10, 2023, saw the Bears send Carolina the top pick from the previous year's draft in return for 2023 first- and second-round selections, a 2024 first-round pick that ultimately became the No.1 overall selection and a second-round pick in 2025.
